Kai Tak Mall | MATCHLEGACY x MatchWornShirt Kai Tak Retail Store 2 Pop-up Store
Description
The quadrennial World Cup ignites football fever in the city, and four top European clubs, Manchester City, Inter Milan, Chelsea, and Juventus, are invited to play at the Kai Tak Sports Park Main Stadium on 1 and 5 August as part of the 'Hong Kong Football Festival (HKFF) 2026'. MATCHLEGACY, a high-end football experience brand in Hong Kong, has joined hands with MatchWornShirt, a world-renowned platform for football jerseys, to set up a pop-up store at Kai Tak Retail Store 2 from now until 9 August. The store will display and sell rare match-worn, backup, and autographed jerseys officially certified by top clubs such as Chelsea, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, and Juventus, with a total value of over HK$2 million. Chelsea football stars will also make surprise appearances during the event. In addition, customers who make any purchase at the pop-up store will have a chance to be invited to an exclusive auction after the tournament, where bidders may acquire the actual jerseys worn by players from Manchester City, Inter Milan, Chelsea, and Juventus during the 'Hong Kong Football Festival 2026' at the Kai Tak Stadium.
Match-worn jerseys witness the birth of multiple European championship trophies
A total of 12 significant jerseys will be exhibited at the 'MATCHLEGACY x MatchWornShirt Kai Tak Retail Store 2 Pop-up Store', including the 2024-25 Bayern Munich team-signed jersey, the Joshua Kimmich autographed jersey, and match-worn jerseys of Phil Foden, Cole Palmer, César Azpilicueta, Florent Malouda, N'Golo Kanté, and Roméo Lavia from Manchester City and Chelsea. Each exhibit carries the memories of the stars' battles in the UEFA Champions League, Europa League, and UEFA Super Cup, witnessing the birth of one football legend after another and the crowning of champions!
The most eye-catching piece is undoubtedly the Manchester City jersey of Erling Haaland, the 'sharpshooter' who led Norway to the quarter-finals of the World Cup for the first time in history, scoring 7 goals in 5 games. This jersey was prepared for the Norwegian sharpshooter as a backup for the Champions League quarter-final, and Haaland played the full 90 minutes at the Bernabéu, leading Manchester City's offensive line to a 3-3 draw against Real Madrid, making it extremely valuable for collectors. The 'MATCHLEGACY x MatchWornShirt Kai Tak Retail Store 2 Pop-up Store' allows fans to appreciate Haaland's backup jersey up close, making up for the fact that they couldn't see his on-field performance at the Kai Tak home stadium, and they can also visit the store to take photos and create unique memories with fellow fans!
Wang Zhizun, the founder and curator of MATCHLEGACY, is optimistic about the potential of the 'football economy': 'Taking advantage of the opportunity of holding top-level matches at the Kai Tak Sports Park Main Stadium, we hope to create a strong synergy with other merchants in the Kai Tak Retail Store and attract a large number of visitors through the matches. At the same time, benefiting from the huge effects of the 'post-match economy', we expect a 25% increase in business for the pop-up store.'
Wang Zhizun also invests in and manages MatchWornShirt's Asian business. Regarding the potential of the jersey collection market, he said, 'In recent years, match-worn and autographed jerseys of top football stars have been highly sought-after in the market, and their value continues to rise. For example, the six jerseys worn by football king Messi during the first half of Argentina's championship-winning campaign at the 2022 Qatar World Cup were auctioned at Sotheby's in New York for a total of $7.8 million (approximately HK$60.84 million). This shows the unlimited potential of the jersey collection market. The value of the match-worn and autographed jerseys displayed in this event has increased by almost 100% in recent years. We hope that through this event, more football fans will be able to experience the extraordinary value and charm of collecting top-tier football memorabilia.'
Football fans, don't miss this chance to experience an unprecedented world-class football festival! From now until 9 August, visit the 'MATCHLEGACY x MatchWornShirt Kai Tak Retail Store 2 Pop-up Store' to get up close to 12 precious jerseys from top clubs and enjoy the charm of the Hong Kong Football Festival!
